Club Competitions
PDI Competitions: Open PDI's are held seasonally for any subject chosen by the Author that is not likely to offend and are categorized for, Development and Advanced authors. PDI: two images may be entered into each competition – unless otherwise stated.
PDI Competitions Set Subject 3 rounds are held seasonally for Development and Advanced workers. Two images may be entered into each competition – unless otherwise stated.
Print Competitions: four rounds are held seasonally for Development and Advanced workers. Up to three images may be entered into each competition. Only the top two scores will be used.
With the exception of Print/PDI and less otherwise advised images may only be used once. It
is not permitted re-enter an image which is identical or virtually identical. This is not in the spirit of competition. The committee reserves the right to disqualify any such image or deduct points.
Members must submit fully, details of their entries to the Competition Secretary by email one week before the competition. Please complete the following details on the email: Name, Competition Number, and Title." target="_self" custom_class="about-banner-top-right"]
Competition Rules
The club has two main competition groups; Development and Advance. New members are welcome and will normally be asked to join the Development Group, unless they already have an accreditation or history of photographic achievement. Development members can however ask to be considered for entry to the Advance group, in which case they may need to submit a portfolio of their work for review by the club committee. On competition nights members may enter their images for "critique only" where the judge simply comments on the image. This is intended to help new members.
Conditions for entering Print Competitions
To enter Club competitions - Prints, unless otherwise stated in the programme, must be mounted and in the case of aperture mounts a backing board supporting the print must be used. Alternatively prints can simply be glued to the face of a mounting board (Float mounted). The reverse of the mounts must give details of the author’s Competition Number, Title of the print, Date of competition, Authors Name. The label should then be placed on the Top Left Corner.
Dimensions of Entries - Prints
Print mounts MUST not exceed the standard size of 50cm x 40cm. Image size depends on Competition and Category as follows:
Open Subject, Set Subject, Print of the Year& External Competitions: Image size can be any size within the 50cm x 40cm mount, Minimum size 18cm x 13cm.
Details of entry up to 2 prints must be emailed to the Competition Secretary at competitionsscc@yahoo.com one week before the competition & Prints brought to the club on the evening of the competition by 7:30pm
Conditions for entering PDI Competitions
PDI Images - Should be resized to 1920 x 1200 pixels max for landscape images and max of 1200 pixels high for portrait images. The file must be in JPEG format & be named in a certain format in order to be entered. The File Name must be titled as follows: Image Title (space) by (space) Competition No (space) Author. For example:
Red Bus by 99d Joe Bloggs
It is important that this titling format is followed for the competition computer software to work correctly.
By entering competitions, members work becomes available to Southwick Camera Club to use at the Club's discretion. With the exception of Print/PDI of the Year an Knockout Competitions, Images may only be used once in club competitions; it is not permitted to re-enter an image which is identical or virtually to one previously entered.
The committee reserves the right to disqualify any such image or deduct any points that it may have scored.
Images to represent the club at external/inter-club competitions will be selected from those entered in the internal club competitions by the selection team nominated by the committee.
Competition Entry
Members must submit full details & JPEG PDIs of their entries to the Competition Secretary by email to competitionsscc@yahoo.com one week before the comp. Please complete the following details on the email: Title, Competition Number and Name.
Critique Group
New members not wishing to enter the competitions, are welcome to submit images for critique only by the presiding Judge of the evening. Members can decide to enter the full competition when they feel confident.
